Video Production & Live Media

I build video from the inside out: story, image, timing, people, and the pressure of getting the moment right.

Most of this work started the same way — someone had a story, a date, and not enough hands. Live broadcast, narrative film, documentary, community campaigns, worship production, motion graphics: different formats, same job. I run the pipeline end to end, from booking the guest or casting the soloist to the final export, with the paperwork filed and the deadline met.

Section 01

Live Broadcast & Civic Media

Weekly live programming produced for LGBT Detroit — guest booking, editorial prep, multi-platform simulcast, and real-time audience interaction. This is where community storytelling meets a live clock.

“Pride Decides” ft. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed

LGBT Detroit Live · May 2026 · 61 min · Live simulcast

During the 2026 U.S. Senate race, I booked, researched, and interviewed candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed for our election series — building the question arc from his prior press, then pressing into what his platform means for Black and LGBTQ+ Detroiters, including a direct question about PrEP access that no other outlet had asked him.

The campaign co-published that exchange to the candidate’s own channels, driving new followers to LGBT Detroit. The broadcast ran live with the produced interview segment rolled in.

Narrative Film & Visual Direction

Two student films, two chairs. One I directed shot by shot; one I produced end to end. Together they cover both sides of a working set: the vision, and the machine that gets it made.

Worth the Risk

Short Film · 2 min · Director · Wayne State University, 2024

Directed from a provided script and built from the ground up: 3D-previsualized storyboards, an overhead blocking diagram, and a four-person crew run on a zero-dollar budget.

A couple’s noir roleplay collides with one spectacularly ill-timed John Dillinger reference — and the real intimacy arrives only after the fantasy falls apart.

The Reagan Rant

Short Film · 14 min · Producer · Wayne State University, 2024

Producer and Festivals Coordinator on a fourteen-minute political satire, written and directed by Anjali Vaid Gupta — a studio shoot with a full cast of principals and extras, managed end to end.

The whole run is documented in a 314-page production binder — every document from first script revision to festival submission, tracked and filed. Directing is vision. Producing is making sure the vision arrives on time with its paperwork signed.

Section 03

Community & Advocacy Video

Short-form content produced for LGBT Detroit — North America’s largest Black-founded and led LGBT+ nonprofit. Mission-driven video on a weekly clock: community updates, event campaigns, and culture, built for the platforms where the community actually lives. Some of the account’s strongest organic engagement has come from community-centered Hotter Than July content, outperforming even higher-profile collaborative posts within LGBT Detroit’s own feed.

“What’s Up @ LGBT Detroit” — Recurring Series

Short-form series · YouTube Shorts & Instagram · Ongoing

A recurring on-camera series fronting LGBT Detroit’s social channels, delivered week after week in the org’s voice. Sustained programming, not one-off posts: the series turned the channel from an events bulletin board into a place with a face.

A year before joining staff, I appeared on this channel exactly once, as a Giving Tuesday volunteer. The grid below is what it looks like now.

Motor City Pride — Walk With Us Campaign Promo

Campaign promo · Motor City Pride · June 2026

Fast-turnaround campaign promo driving community turnout for the Motor City Pride walk. Everything past the lens is mine: the graphic design, the edit, the QR code, and the signup form it routes to — plus the walk itself, which I organized. Not every piece gets a production binder; some content needs to exist by Friday, with a working signup funnel attached.

Section 04

Documentary & Tribute Editing

Longform interview work: finding the people whose testimony carries a story, getting them comfortable enough to tell it, and cutting hours of conversation into something that holds.

Cold As Hell: Descent Into the Ninth

Documentary Short · 20 min · 2026

● In festival submission
Cold As Hell: Descent Into the Ninth documentary poster

An intimate documentary on Detroit’s Black kink and leather community, told through three people who have lived it: an elder and protector, a visual archivist, and a titleholder. The film asks what happens when the language of power exchange collides with American racial history — and how Black kinksters built their own safety when existing spaces would not offer it.

I originated the project after noticing how rarely Black participants appear in how this culture gets documented. I sourced the subjects, conducted the interviews, designed the graphics package, and edited the film. Part archive, part testimony, part celebration.

Anchored by ONYX Great Lakes and the programming of LGBT Detroit.

Rev. Dr. Jim Holley — 50-Year Retirement Tribute

Client tribute · 18 min · Historic Little Rock Baptist Church, 2022

An eighteen-minute tribute marking Rev. Dr. Jim Holley’s fifty years leading Historic Little Rock Baptist Church, screened at his retirement celebration. Congregants and colleagues who had known him for decades sat for interviews about what those years meant.

I proposed the piece, shot every interview, designed the set graphics and lower thirds, and edited the film to deliver ahead of the retirement date. Elders in the ministry sourced the voices and secured the location; I brought the equipment, the plan, and the finish.

Section 05

Performance & Worship Production

Thirteen years running media for a Detroit congregation — weekly services plus full Easter and Christmas programs delivered on dates that never move. These are the productions where I ran the entire pipeline, from booking studio time to the final program the congregation sees on the holiday.

The Voices of Christmas 2020 — EP & Music Video Series

Gospel EP + video program · Historic Little Rock Baptist Church · 2020

A full Christmas gospel EP and companion music video series, built from nothing in a single season — from scouting soloists and supervising studio sessions through lighting, shooting, and cutting every video.

The audio shipped to every major streaming platform before Thanksgiving so the congregation could hear it going into the season, and the video program was ready for Christmas. Four soloists cast out of the choir, a ten-person production, two deliverables, one immovable date.

Online Easter Extravaganza 2021

Full holiday program · Historic Little Rock Baptist Church · 2021

The full Easter program, produced for online delivery: recorded music performances, an outdoor praise dance piece, and children’s ministry recitations, bound together by an on-camera host recording interstitial links between segments — produced pieces and host wraparound, assembled into one continuous broadcast.

Coordinating across ministries is most of this job — music, children’s, and dance each have their own leaders and schedules, and the program only works if every piece arrives finished before the holiday. On the dance segment, the team chose their own music; the location, direction, camera, and edit are mine.

Section 06

Motion Graphics & Social Video

The connective tissue: guest intros, animated identities, and looping event visuals. Small pieces, made constantly, that decide whether a broadcast or an event feels designed or improvised.

Guest Intro Graphics — LGBT Detroit Live

Broadcast motion graphics · Custom-built per episode · Ongoing

Dominic BluTick
Donavan McKinney, congressional candidate
Huff Goes to the Movies

Every guest on LGBT Detroit Live gets a custom animated intro — not a generic bumper with a name swapped in, but a built piece using their photo and framing, produced fresh for each episode. It is the first thing the audience sees, and it sets whether the show reads as a professional broadcast or a video call.

Each intro then works twice: it becomes the lead-in for the episode’s recap Short, carrying the same design language into the social edit — produced on a weekly clock across dozens of guests, from community figures to candidates for federal office.

Rev. Dr. Jim Holley — 50th Anniversary Logo Animation

Looping event visual · Retirement banquet, 2022

A static circular logo, translated to motion: the outer ring rotates around the fixed center mark, over a gold shimmer field built to give the frame depth on a large screen. Cut as a seamless loop — the final frame matches the first, so the ring completes its circle endlessly with no visible restart.

Built to run ambient through the retirement banquet, the same evening the fifty-year tribute film screened. Two deliverables, one room.

Cynthia & Joseph Welch — 50th Anniversary Invitation

Client commission · Video invitation + animated logo

A commissioned video invitation for a golden anniversary. The clients arrived with a printed invitation suite and an outline of what they wanted to say; I wrote the script from it, shot the couple, and digitized their existing paper logo into a shimmering gold mark built as an endless loop for the celebration itself.

The commission came by referral: Joseph Welch sang on the Christmas program above, saw the work, and hired me for their anniversary.

Every format on this page started the same way.

Someone had a story, a date, and not enough hands. Whether it was a Senate candidate on a live simulcast, a fifty-year pastorate that needed documenting, or a community that had never seen itself on film — the work was to build the thing and get it there on time.

If you have something that needs producing, I’d like to hear about it.
