Summary

Detroit multimedia producer with twelve years of live production behind me: roughly 600 weekly broadcasts for a Detroit congregation, 37 episodes of a weekly civic livestream, and the campaign identity for a Black Pride festival that draws about 20,000 people. I run productions end to end — concept, crew, edit, delivery, promotion. Most of the work below started as a problem nobody had assigned to anyone yet. Looking for producer and communications roles in newsrooms and mission-driven organizations.

Experience

Broadcast Network Assistant / Event Producer

LGBT Detroit · Detroit, MI · Feb 2025 – Present

  • Produced 37 episodes of LGBT Detroit Live, a weekly civic talk program simulcast to four platforms — booking, run-of-show, graphics, direction, and live troubleshooting.
  • Booked, researched, and interviewed a 2026 U.S. Senate candidate for the Pride Decides election series; the campaign co-published the interview clip to its own channels.
  • Proposed the 2026 theme for Hotter Than July — a Black Pride festival drawing roughly 20,000 attendees — adopted by the committee as the year’s name, then built the full campaign identity across flyers, parade banner, apparel, broadcast graphics, and social.
  • Serve as liaison between LGBT Detroit and Motor City Pride, supporting parade coordination, logistics, and broadcast.
  • Write outreach emails, guest question banks, interview briefs, press releases, show notes, and promotional copy.

Graphic Designer / Livestream Coordinator / Social Media Co-Manager

Historic Little Rock Baptist Church · Detroit, MI · Jan 2013 – Present

  • Directed roughly 600 weekly service broadcasts across twelve years — 52 a year, every Sunday, plus full Easter and Christmas programs on dates that do not move.
  • Executive-produced a four-track gospel EP — cast four soloists out of the choir, ran the studio sessions, handled distribution and artwork across a ten-person production — live on every major streaming platform before Thanksgiving, recorded one voice at a time during the pandemic.
  • Coordinate talent, volunteers, ministry leaders, and technical staff across music, children’s, and dance ministries.
  • Planned the annual Family Fun Day community picnic for four to five years — roughly 300 attendees, a day-of crew of 20 to 30 volunteers, plus permits, vendors, transportation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Built tracking systems for vendors, invoices, expenses, permits, deadlines, and leadership review materials.
  • Conducted outreach to local public officials and candidates to secure participation and coordinate on-site walkthroughs.

Founder / Multimedia Producer / Creative Director

JoeBlack Multimedia LLC · Detroit, MI · Freelance 2011 – Present · LLC formed 2024

  • Originated, directed, and cut a 14-minute documentary on racism in Detroit’s Black leather and kink community — nobody assigned it, and I am self-funding both the film and its festival run.
  • Wrote an award-winning comedy screenplay — three festival honors in 2025.
  • Shoot commercial, portrait, event, and documentary photography.
  • Manage projects from concept through budgeting, scheduling, production, edit, delivery, and promotion.
  • Develop budgets, timelines, pitch documents, and creative strategy; coordinate collaborators, performers, and contributors.
